Coaching Staff
SAM MOY
Director & Head Coach
Sam Moy joined the Hurricanes in the early 80’s under its original Wing Wor origin and is a highly respected player in both the Asian volleyball and Asian basketball circuits. Sam has represented the Boston Hurricanes as player and coach throughout the early 2000’s. In 2005, he was selected to be one of the North American Chinese Basketball Association’s Top 25 Players of All Time.
Recently Sam has coached for the Belmont Youth Basketball Association, the Canes Youth program and JR Celtics at Yang YMCA.
David Ancheta
Assistant Coach, Clinic Instructor
David was born and raised in Boston, and is married with two children. Both his children played for the Boston Hurricanes, following in their father's footsteps. David is a veteran Hurricane, playing with the original Wing Wor team in 1972. As he continues to play both basketball and volleyball, he eventually transitioned into coaching for both sports. He is currently an IAABO- certified basketball official at the high school level, and boasts 23 seasons.
STEVE LEE
Assistant Coach, Clinic Instructor
Coach Steve first turned to coaching in 1996 as an assistant with the Hurricanes youth team that participated competitively in the Boston Neighborhood Basketball League (BNBL) and the Chinese Nationals. Steve has coached both boys and girls middle school teams in the Boston Public Schools. During his tenure, his student-athletes have gone on to play competitively in their respective Boston Public High School basketball programs. He has also spent some time as a middle school assistant AAU and town basketball head coach.
He is currently a middle school teacher in Boston.
Josh Moy
Coach & Clinic Instructor
Josh, a rising sophomore at Northeastern University , has a strong background in basketball, having played for the Youth 13 and 15 Hurricane teams as well as for his high school and AAU squads. During high school, he also coached for the Belmont Youth Basketball Association. Currently, Josh is coaching the Junior Canes and taking the lead in clinics with guidance from Coach Sam Moy, while also developing a career as a private youth basketball trainer.
Justin Mok
Junior Coach
Justin has been a dedicated player with the Boston Hurricanes since he was 12 years old and is now part of the Canes Gold team, serving as a Junior Coach and mentoring younger players. In addition to his involvement with the Hurricanes, he is a member of the OCA Advisory Board and the founder of the Mentorship Program. Justin is currently pursuing a degree in Microbiology and play in the Quadball team at Rutgers University. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, training at the gym, and boxing.
Administration
May Mok
Program and Operations Director
May’s passion for basketball and volleyball originated during her high school and college years, where she distinguished herself as a player on Asian teams. Her enthusiasm for these sports inspired her to introduce her two sons to basketball and volleyball a decade ago. Since then, they have been actively involved with the Hurricanes, participating in both the 9 Man volleyball and basketball teams, as well as their respective college teams.
Matt Mok
Marketing Coordinator
Matthew Mok, a UMass Amherst graduate with a double major in Marketing and Communication, is currently working in a Fortune 500 company within the sales and food distribution sector. He is dedicated to staying active and enjoys working out. Matthew played for the Boston Hurricanes 9Man Blue team and served as Vice President of the UMass Amherst Club Volleyball team, which earned a bronze and silver medal at the Collegiate Club National Championships in 2023 and 2024.
Ethan Wong
Social Media Coordinator
Ethan is both a U16 Captain and U18 team member. Inspired by his father, he has been passionate about basketball since childhood. He plays daily and enjoys coaching players of various ages and skill levels. Alongside his sports commitments, he is a student-athlete at North Quincy High School, where he explores photography and participates in track & field and volleyball.
